Last year's Festival audience was blown away by the Festival/ASCAP reading of Bubble Boy. Now, for the third year ASCAP and the Festival present a staged reading of a remarkable new musical in progress. DANI GIRL, which has been developed at American Conservatory Theatre, Cherry Lane Theatre, the Kennedy Center, and the ASCAP/Disney Musical Theater workshop, was written by Jonathan Larson Award winners Michael Kooman and Christopher Dimond. Richard Israel directs. Cast includes Jason Graae (What the L.A. Times said of several of Jason Graae's performances this year-he's "hilarious", "robust", has "a swanky voice,"and gave "his best, most deeply felt performance yet", and Michelle Duffy (Cast in the upcoming, Broadway-bound LEAP OF FAITH at the Ahmanson, Ovation winner for her portrayal of "Pistache".)

In this dark musical comedy Dani, a precocious nine year old, finds herself face to face with a life-threatening disease. Together with her teddy bear, imaginary guardian angel, and socially awkward hospital roommate, she embarks on a magical quest to reclaim her health. Simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking, DANI GIRL is a tale of life in the face of death, hope in the face of despair, and the indomitable power of the human imagination
